You think of Rome and the Colosseum, the Vatican, Castel Sant’angelo, the most famous squares and fountains come to mind, of course… for more than 2770 years Rome has never ceased to evolve!
From “La Nuvola” Convention Center to the Auditorium Parco della Musica, from the MAXXI (National Museum for the Arts of the 21st Century) to the MACRO (Museum of Contemporary Art), to the Church “Dives in Misericordia” – Father God Merciful – Rome is a crucible of ideas, proposals, projects… and having a bit of time at hand, a visit to Rome modernity is worth as much as the historical sites of the city. New Convention Center “La nuvola” by Fuksas is a work of extraordinary artistic value, characterized by innovative logistics solutions and the choice of technologically advanced materials, and is distinguished by an eco-friendly approach. to say a set of choices aimed at reducing energy consumption.
The complex is able to host congress and exhibition events, with a total capacity of more than 8000 seats, divided between the auditorium within the Cloud, which can accommodate more than 1,700 people and other large congress halls for a total of 6,500 seats.
Auditorium Parco della Musica, designed by architect Renzo Piano, and inaugurated in the early 2002, is made of materials of the capitol tradition: travertine for the steps and Roman brick for stands. The three rooms – Santa Cecilia, Sinopoli Room, Sala Petrassi, of different amplitude and different functional destination – are able to cover all the musical needs required and boast exceptional acoustics. In the beautiful season, many concerts are held inside the Cavea, the amphitheater at the heart of the Auditorium, which is a particularly interesting musical space and can accommodate up to 3,000 spectators.
MAXXI, the 21st Century National Museum for Anglo-Iraqi Architect Zaha Hadid, is located in the Flaminio district. It is a horizontal development complex conceived as a “delta with various rivers” with eight longitudinal volumes, twisted and folded together, covering an area of 30 thousand square meters.
The interior spaces, devoted to contemporary creativity, are designed as collectors for culture, experimentation, study and research.
MACRO is a Odile Decq project with an exhibition area of over 4000 square meters but counting areas dedicated to services and the public – a large terrace, conference room, bookshop, restaurant, bar, parking and teaching area – the total area rises to approximately 19500 sqm. The dynamic and sinuous shapes of the structure, perfectly integrated in the pre-existing context, create a sensual and luminous landscape in which the different languages of contemporary find their natural space.
MACRO is a museum of our time, always attentive to the discovery and promotion of new artists as well as events and new trends on the contemporary scene.
Church “Dives in Misericordia”, God Merciful Father, designed by architect Richard Meier in 2003, is located in the popular Tor 3 Teste district. It looks like a ship with three majestic spiers, made of white concrete and 26 meters high, that are liable to a symbolic reading: they evoke both the early Christian image of the soul as a ship points towards the lighthouse of Christ, and the meaning historian of the pontificate of John Paul II, with the Church leading the faithful towards the third millennium.
